Crisis and Disaster Management Unit
Welcome to the homepage of the Crisis and Disaster Management Unit at Heidelberg University Hospital.
As part of the critical infrastructure in Germany, hospitals make a significant contribution to maintaining social order. In recent years, it has repeatedly been shown that they can be exposed to special situations over and above daily operations. The spectrum ranges from natural disasters (e.g. Ahrtal floods) to criminal acts (e.g. cyber attacks, rampage) and increased utilisation of treatment capacities (e.g. pandemic, mass casualty incidents). Hospitals therefore have a special responsibility towards (potential) patients, employees and visitors to maintain their operations, expand them if necessary and prevent harm to them. In order to fulfil this obligation, hospital alarm and emergency plans are regularly drawn up and continuously updated. The Crisis and Disaster Management staff unit was established for this purpose and has been working on alarm plans in an interdisciplinary exchange since 2022.
