More details

Our regular office hours are

Tuesday from 09:00 -18:00

During these times you can meet us in person at the JAV office or contact us by phone.

You can also make appointments outside these times by prior arrangement.

There is a black letterbox labelled JAV in the foyer of the AfG.
You can primarily use this to post the feedback forms about the last station where you were deployed.
You can also contact us anonymously here if you have any other concerns.

However, please be aware that this is not a suitable means of clarifying urgent matters due to the lack of opportunity for consultation.

If you come across us, just contact us at

General information on the JAV

Why does the JAV exist and what do its members do?
When is the JAV responsible?

The legal basis for our work (and that of the Staff Council) is the Baden-Württemberg State Staff Representation Act (LPVG).

§Section 59 of the LPVG states:

Youth and trainee representatives shall be formed in departments where staff representative bodies have been established and which generally have at least five employees entitled to vote who have not yet reached the age of 18 or are in vocational training.

As the University Hospital employs more than 200 young people, pupils and trainees, the JAV consists of seven full members (plus substitute members).

The JAV is usually elected every two years. All young people, pupils and all persons in training (regardless of age) are eligible to vote.

Anyone who has not yet reached the age of 26 on the day of the election or is still in training at that time can stand for election.

The answer to this question is a clear YES IF you have a training contract with Heidelberg University Hospital or are an employee under the age of 18.

That's what we do:

As youth and trainee representatives, we represent the interests of all trainees, pupils and young people at Heidelberg University Hospital vis-à-vis Heidelberg University Hospital, i.e. the employer.

Trainees, school pupils and young employees are employees in a relationship with their employer.
This relationship is governed by contracts and laws so that a fair employment relationship can exist.

As youth and trainee representatives, we have the following rights and obligations under Section 63 of the LPVG BW (Baden-Württemberg State Staff Representation Act) in order to represent the interests of trainees, students and young people in this working relationship:

We are obliged to inform you about content,
that concerns you with regard to your training or work.

You will receive information from us in the following ways, among others:

  • Display cases
We have a display case in both the AfG and the INF 132 hall of residence, in which
    we regularly post important information.
  • Inter- / Intranet
On our pages on the UKHD Inter- and Intranet you will also find current notices,
    but also important downloads.
Important: For legal reasons, you will find more information on the Intranet than on the Internet!
  • Course introductions
At the very beginning of most training courses, we will come to your course and introduce ourselves.
We will also inform you about your rights and obligations during training.
  • YES meetings
We organise a youth and trainee meeting at least once a year.
You should definitely come to this meeting to get information and get involved.

Of course, we are not supposed to supervise the trainees, students and young people, but to ensure that the employer complies with laws and contracts.

However, as the hospital is very large and we have a large number of trainees, pupils and young people, we sometimes need your help with this task:

  • Feedback forms
Fill out a feedback form about the ward or area after each completed assignment in the practice.
You will find the feedback forms in the AfG in the entrance area directly by our display case and mailbox.
This gives us an overview of the situation on the various wards and areas and allows us to take a closer look there.
  • Email, letter, other
If there are more urgent matters, please contact us while you are still on duty. Depending on the urgency, we recommend that you either call us directly or write an email.
Of course, we are also open to all questions, as these may help to uncover problems.
  • Ward visits
On certain occasions, we sometimes visit you on the ward and interview you on one or more topics.
Your co-operation is of course voluntary, we are grateful for your support!

The State Staff Representation Act states that we must receive and examine your suggestions and
complaints regarding vocational training and, if justified, work towards their resolution with the Staff Council.

However, as your representative body, complaints and suggestions that affect us as a committee are also important to us.

If you have a concern (or even just a question), you can contact us as follows:

  • Talk to us!
It's clear: If you see us, talk to us!
We will be happy to help you directly or arrange an appointment with you to clarify your request.
  • Email
Send us an email to JAV(at)med.uni-heidelberg.de!
This is the quickest and easiest way for us to communicate with you, as we can simply ask again if anything is unclear.
  • Telephone
You can reach us on 06221 56 7999 during our office hours or by appointment.

If you have a very urgent problem and we are not available, you can reach the staff council on our telephone number on weekdays, who will also be happy to help you.
  • The JAV letterbox
There is a black letterbox in the entrance area of the AfG under our display case.
You can post your concerns (anonymously) in it at any time in addition to the ward feedback forms.
Please note that we cannot empty the letterbox every day for logistical reasons, which can lead to delays in processing your concerns.
It is important to us that you have the opportunity to post anonymous letters. However, experience has shown that our work is easier if we can ask questions.

If we come across something that could be improved for your benefit through your feedback or other means, we have the opportunity to request this from the Staff Council.

This also includes two further tasks that have been assigned to us in accordance with the State Staff Representation Act:

  • Equality
We must and want to work towards equality between male and female employees
  • Inclusion
We are responsible for promoting the inclusion of young people, schoolgirls and trainees from different backgrounds
  • Environmental protection
We should also work to protect the environment.
So if you have any further suggestions here, please feel free to contact us!
