Measurement of nowadays advanced Listening Skills Attitudes
(MonaLisa)
Summary
Telephone or Internet-based crisis counseling centers for people in suicidal crises and high emotional stress exist in most European member states. The task of crisis services is to provide contact and emotional support, to relieve the callers emotionally and, if necessary, handle suicidal crises. Most crisis services work with trained volunteers (paraprofessionals) who are trained over a period of months for this demanding activity. The core competence for crisis support is listening. With this in mind, the interdisciplinary Monalisa consortium of 9 partners from 6 EU countries has come together to individually expand existing knowledge on listening skills and to gain new insights into the technique and art of competent listening. The main outcome of the project will be the MonaLiSa test and learning tool, which will allow people to measure their individual listening competencies (questionnaire) and provide them with support to improve their listening through individually suggested learning nuggets based on the test. The learning tool will be created as a web application. It will be an open digital educational resource that will enable lifelong learning in the field of soft skill competencies. It will help people to develop individual competences in listening, social skills and dialogue skills internationally.
