Leishmaniasis
Leishmaniasis is caused by protozoa of the genus Leishmania. The disease can affect the skin, mucous membranes and also internal organs. The respective form and severity depends on the Leishmania species and, to a certain extent, on the immune response of the infected individual.
In the Department of Infectious Diseases and Tropical Medicine, we address all forms of leishmaniasis on an interdisciplinary basis with colleagues from the Department of Dermatology and ENT, among others. We carry out the necessary diagnostics and treatment and support those affected during therapy.
As a clinical reference center with a supra-regional catchment area, we also contribute to national guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of leishmaniasis.
