Nina Hoernke

Nina is a medical doctor with a Master's in Global Health and Development from University College London. In her current role as a research assistant at HIGH she collaborates on projects exploring the intersection of climate change and child health, including a global analysis of national adaptation plans, tracking heat-related illnesses in Germany, and co-creating child-focused interventions based on insights from children and stakeholders. With clinical experience in paediatrics, both in the United Kingdom and abroad, she is passionate about improving global child health and reducing health inequalities. She is particularly interested in participatory methodologies for addressing complex health challenges, and research which informs health policy development for resilient and equitable healthcare systems. Previous work in this field includes her role at Children In All Policies (CAP)-2030, which implements the recommendations of the WHO-UNICEF-Lancet Commission, where she worked on an adolescent citizen science project exploring the local impacts of climate change on nutrition, environmental hazards and biodiversity in Nepal. She has done qualitative research on the lived experiences of people with HIV, as well as healthcare workers' experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic to inform policy decisions in the UK. Nina has contributed to global health working groups such as John's Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health Women in Health Leadership and the Global Health Education in UK Medical Schools (GHEMS).
