Prof. Dr. med. dent. Christian Mertens

Prof. Dr. Christian Mertens is associate professor for Oral Surgery in the Department of Oral- and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Heidelberg University. He is the head of the scientific group Implantology and Bone Augmentation Procedures. As a senior physician, he practices at the University Clinics’ Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and is a lecturing member of the Heidelberg University faculty.
Prof. Mertens has authored numerous articles and lectures on implant surgery, digital dentistry and bone augmentation procedures, nationally and internationally. He is a Fellow and Diplomate of the Academy of Osseointegration (AO), a board member of the German Society of Oral- and Maxillofacial Surgery (AGOKI) and an active member of numerous implantological societies including the European Association for Osseointegration (EAO) and the German Society of Implantology (DGI). He is also the first chairman of the DGI Landesverband Baden-Württemberg and a member of the editorial board of the renowned journal "Clinical Implant Dentistry and Related Research" and serves as a referee on several other journals. He has been involved in the development and renewal of several scientific guidelines.
