EVIMalaR Second Call

Applications were submitted online via www.evimalar.org and were due by 28 February 2011, after 4 months of advertising in appropriate scientific journals and on the web. 721 students registered, showing interest in the Programme and finally 201 submitted their applications. Most candidates were from India or African countries and the average age lay in the mid twenties.

During a preselection phase the best 39 students were selected based upon:

- grades and certificates
- letter of motivation
- existence and qualitiy of letters of recommendation
- experience in the field of infectious diseases

A special Selection Committes for each of the five research areas then decided to invite 22 candidates from the preselected ones. The invited candidates had to choose up to 3 projects for which they were interviewed (at EMBL, Heidelberg, from 25-27 May 2011).
