Molecular-Cytogenetic Laboratory
Accredited according to DIN EN ISO 15189
In our Laboratory for Molecular Genetics, we use fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), as a complementary technique to traditional chromosome analysis for the detection of chromosome aberrations in prenatal, postnatal and tumor-cytogenetic diagnostics. FISH-analysis combines cytogenetic and molecular genetic techniques and allows color imaging of individual chromosomes and specific chromosome segments using a fluorescence microscope. The FISH technique has clear advantages compared to G-banding; these are the significantly higher resolution (detection of microdeletions) as well as the fact that a target diagnostic procedures can be performed directly at the cell nucleus (FISH interphase).
