Luz Marina Leegstra

Research Assistant

Luz is a Psychologist with a Master´s in international health, with over 10 years of experience working on communicable and non-communicable diseases in LMICs.
She conducted qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research in Latin America (Brazil, Nicaragua, Colombia, Argentina), the Western Pacific Region (Cambodia, Fiji, Lao PDR,Malaysia, Mongolia, Papua New Guinea,Philippines, Vietnam) and the Middle East (Yemen). Research interests include adolescent health, mental health, gender based violence and ethical concerns around data and sample sharing during pandemics.

Projects & Grants

ReCoDID (‘Reconciliation of Cohort data in Infectious Diseases’), is a four-year project supported by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 Programme and by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Institute of Genetics (CIHR-IG). The consortium brings together a multidisciplinary team from four continents to fast track the research response to viruses and other pathogens by facilitating data and sample sharing between infectious disease cohort studies. The ReCoDID initiative is supported by the European Commission under the Horizon 2020 Programme.

ORCHESTRA Cohort (Connecting European Cohorts to increase common and effective SARS-CoV-2 Response) is a three-year international research project aimed at tackling the coronavirus pandemic. ORCHESTRA has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101016167.
