Department of Operative MedCo and Inpatient Billing

The Operative Medical Controlling and Statutory Billing department is essentially responsible for all aspects of billing full and partial inpatient cases in the DRG and PEPP area, from coding cases to correcting invoices. Within the department, which has been based at Vangerowstraße 20 (directly on the Wehrsteg) since 2018, the billing team headed by Mr Zoltan Csavajda deals with the administrative and commercial aspects of billing, while the team of medical controllers and MD coordinators headed by Dr Daniela Nietzsche handles the more medical issues. The focus is also on networking all clinical service providers with the aim of standardised documentation, coding and billing structures at Heidelberg University Hospital. The department is both the internal point of contact and the central point of contact for health insurance companies and other payers for coding and billing issues.

• The following services are provided by the department:
• Carrying out individual case and structural audits by the MD (largely on site)
• Billing of all full and partial inpatient services, clarification of open billing issues with the health insurance companies
• Clarification of outstanding invoices with the cost bearers through to social law complaints
• Monthly reporting on performance and MD key figures (as part of the general reporting system), analyses of performance data and invoice reductions by the MD audit
• Supporting the specialist departments with coding, documentation and billing issues
• Issuing binding coding and billing regulations at UKHD and defining these processes
• Implementing the requirements of the DRG and PEPP system Supporting, training and informing clinical departments on the implementation of these requirements
• Participation in the design and development of the DRG and PEPP system, e.g. as part of the proposal process and participation in national committees
• Supporting the introduction of new treatment methods (structural requirements, billing options, NUB services)
• Information and support with specifications for service provision (minimum quantities, GB-A guidelines, structural audits, etc.)
