RACOON-BI – THE RADIOLOGY COOPERATION IN NUM
RACOON is establishing a nationwide infrastructure as an end-to-end solution for radiologic research, AI training, and biomarker development during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. The imaging platform provides image-based diagnosis, management, and follow-up research. All German university hospitals are participating in this collaborative project. The 2022-2024 funding phase will ensure the continued availability of the RACOON infrastructure and maintain a stable and expandable homogeneous image annotation and analysis infrastructure across all participating hospitals. This infrastructure will enable orchestrated cross-clinic research and studies. Triggered by the extraordinary challenge of a global pandemic, RACOON creates a unique collaborative infrastructure that is, to our knowledge, unprecedented in functionality and scope. RACOON enables nationwide multicenter imaging research across the academic radiology community while reducing the organizational burden of distributed biomarker development and federated AI training.

RACOON COMBINE
As a use case of the RACOON basic infrastructure, a complete imaging phenotyping including metabolic, cardiovascular, pulmonary, hepatic, and neurological health is being generated for patients as part of the COMBINE study ("Development and Application of Image-Based Biomarkers for Prediction and Prognosis Assessment of Patients with COVID-19"). Radiologic data have proven to be an insightful tool for patient diagnosis and outcome assessment in the COVID-19 pandemic. The resulting standardized radiological datasets will be fed into the RACOON platform to be available for collaborative research projects.
