CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY AND PHARMACOEPIDEMIOLOGY
Despite many decades of drug use in therapy and development, today's therapies are still not effective and safe in every patient, and we cannot precisely predict individual drug effects.
In our department, more than 70 employees from different disciplines, such as pharmacy, medicine, data science, biotechnology and pharmacogenetics, are working together to adapt the use of medicines to the individual needs and medical characteristics of patients and to improve the safety and efficacy of drug therapy. We support the University Hospital Heidelberg in the translation and development of new therapies by planning, coordinating and conducting Early Clinical Trials in our network of Clinical Trial Centers.
Our aim in research and teaching is to personalize drug therapy, to develop practical solutions that are adapted to the needs of the patient and to elucidate the causes of variability in drug effects. Pharmacogenetic strategies help to adapt drug dosing and drug selection to the genetic characteristics of patients.
Our research collaborations on the Heidelberg campus, in Germany, Europe, and around the world serve this purpose in personalized medicine.
