Susanne Ziegler-Wirtz

PhD candidate

Susanne Ziegler-Wirtz is a trained sociologist and economist whose PhD research focuses on universal health coverage and health financing in low- and middle-income countries, with a focus on developing gender-responsive health financing systems in India. In addition to her academic work, she leads a global project on population dynamics and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in Bonn, where she previously headed the UHC team. Susanne also spent several years with GIZ in New Delhi, contributing to reforms of India's publicly-funded health insurance schemes, PM-JAY and RSBY. She has also worked with the European Commission's Directorate-General EuropeAid, now International Partnerships, in Brussels, Belgium.
