Dr. sc. hum. at the Institute of Global Health

The Institute of Global Health is organized into several collaborating working groups with the topics epidemiology and biostatistics, health systems, health economics and health financing, global health policies and systems, disease control in disadvantaged populations, and climate change and health. These offer the possibility to train in the specific field and complete your research with a written thesis.

The obtained title is called Doctor scientiarum humanarum (Dr. sc. hum.), which is comparable to a PhD. The examination procedure consists of the evaluation of a written academic thesis and an oral examination. Students are expected to hand in their thesis within 3 to 5 years. Oral examination usually follows after 3 to 6 months. Candidates successfully completing the examination are granted the doctorate degree for independent academic achievement. (Steps of the procedure in detail: click here - document entitled: "English version: Procedure in Keywords" )

To become well rounded in topics beyond your thesis, it is recommended to join in activities and lectures such as journal clubs and seminar series at the Institute. Aside from that, you may be interested in lectures of the Medical Faculty or open events at other academic institutions of the University.

Most doctoral students at the Institute are funded through individual scholarships or on third-party research project grants of their supervisor. Under “Additional information” you will find more details on potential funding opportunities for your research project.
