General information

The light-flooded, friendly delivery rooms at Heidelberg University Women's Hospital offer you a pleasant environment in which you can feel at ease during the birth of your child. A team of midwives, obstetricians and pediatricians is available for you around the clock and supports you with state-of-the-art medical technology, alternative birth methods and human support. We provide you with individual and empathetic support. Our team will encourage you in your own abilities to ensure that your birth proceeds as naturally as possible.
Four modern, friendly and spacious delivery rooms, two admission rooms and pre-labor and monitoring rooms are available for your delivery.
We know that Every birth is different and requires individual care. We offer a wide range of options to ensure that the birth is self-determined and takes place according to your intuition and needs. These include

  • modern delivery beds suitable for different birthing positions
  • birthing stool
  • Pezziball
  • birthing rope
  • Two relaxation bathtubs

Relaxation baths are good for many women during the pre-natal phase, but also offer the possibility of a water birth. If you are interested in a water birth, we recommend that you ask your gynecologist and our team in the antenatal clinic about the special features and requirements in advance.

The delivery room team comprises a total of 15 midwives, with at least two midwives working simultaneously in one shift. Heidelberg University Hospital offers midwifery studies, which is why students of this subject also support our delivery room team. A delivery room physician and a senior physician complete the team. The university hospital has "maximum care facilities": this means even more safety, as anaesthetists and paediatricians from the neonatal intensive care unit are always available on site should medical intervention be necessary.

CARE OF THE NEWBORN

The neonatal intensive care unit is connected to the delivery room. If a child requires intensive medical care, the newborn does not need to be transported and mother and child can stay together.

We would be happy to show you our facilities and answer your questions at a personal meeting, for example at one of our parent information evenings.

We look forward to accompanying you on this unique experience!
