Analysis of raw materials, in-process final inspection
It goes without saying that the hospital pharmacy only dispenses high-quality preparations to the wards for patient care. This applies to products manufactured in-house as well as to medicines and medical products purchased from the pharmaceutical industry. Quality is assured by the analytical department.
The starting substances required for production are tested in the analytical department for identity and purity, i.e. quality, with the aid of high-tech analytical equipment in accordance with the quality standards of the European Pharmacopoeia. Only then are they released for production in the hospital pharmacy. The products subsequently manufactured by the pharmacy are tested again. Here, the analytical department may first have to develop test methods and subsequently determine stability data - another task of this department. The analytical department must become active even before new formulations are developed: It is this department that helps to avoid compatibility and stability problems through detailed analyses.
Purchased "finished" medicinal products are routinely and randomly tested by the analytical department. If poor quality is detected, the affected medicines are recalled from the wards so that any risk to patients is largely ruled out in advance.
