Laboratory for tropical medicine

Only a few university hospitals have a special laboratory for tropical medicine and parasitology.
Our section ideally combines a tropical medicine outpatient clinic, a special tropical medicine parasitology laboratory (accredited according to ZLG-P 655-03.01 since 02/2003, re-accredited according to DIN EN ISO 15189:2007) and parasitology research (Department of Parasitology) under one roof. The two diagnostic laboratories, the tropical medicine laboratory of the Section and the parasitology laboratory of the Department of Parasitology, have grown together functionally in recent years and have been jointly accredited:
Professor Lanzer and our section prepared a close cooperation in tropical medicine-parasitology diagnostic development in 2008, which has been put into practice since 2009 with the joint recruitment of a scientist.

Our collaboration with major external clients has developed to the point where we offer the following specialist support in addition to pure laboratory services:

• Advice on diagnostic strategy (pre-diagnostics)
• Therapy advice
• Transfer of the patient for further outpatient clarification
• Transfer of the patient to the inpatient area, whereby our medical support is provided in all specialist disciplines of the university hospital, including the infectious diseases intensive care unit
• Organization of regular diagnostic-clinical training courses
