Refractive surgery
Refractive surgery enables patients with refractive errors, but without any other eye diseases, to become spectacle or contact lens independent after laser treatment or lens surgery. Different options using excimer or femtosecond lasers are available, for example the laser treatments LASIK or LASEK for the correction of short-sightedness, far-sightedness and astigmatism. Besides these laser treatments, intraocular lenses can be used for the correction of refractive errors (depending on the type of the refractive error and the age of the patient).
Our interests focus on the analysis of new laser procedures (excimer as well as femtosecond laser), wavefront-guided treatments or iris recognition systems in order to further increase quality, safety and predictability of these laser and lens surgeries.
