Prof. Dr. Osman Sankoh is since 2019 a Visiting Professor at the University of Heidelberg Medical School. He became a Mercator Scholar in 2020 to work in a DFG-funded research project of the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health.

He is the Statistician General and CEO of Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) and the current Vice-Chair of the United Nations Statistical Commission.

Osman is also a honorary Professor in the School of Public Health, Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.

From 2007 to 2018 he was the Executive Director of the INDEPTH Network of Health and Demographic Surveillance System (HDSS) sites in Africa, Asia and the Pacific with headquarters based in Accra, Ghana.
